After creation of Tax Free Zone in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, India, by Government of India, many units migrated from different parts of the country and initially all of them were busy in establishing themselves in new working condition and new area, but subsequently like minded people from both these states met in Delhi and created a new body namely Federation of Pharma Entrepreneurs (FOPE) in the year 2006. Formation of FOPE was the result of laudable efforts made by many like minded people, to name a few, Mr. R.C. Juneja, Mr. B.R. Sikri, Mr. Umesh Sanghi, Mr. D.C. Jain, Mr. Vinod Kalani, Mr. B.K. Gupta.
FOPE started with an objective to take up the common issues affecting the Pharma industry at the national level, with Govt. of India, various ministries and concerned departments responsible for making/changing various policies (affecting Pharma industry and profession in the country). The organization since its formation has taken up number of issues like rate of excise duty on finished formulations, fixed dose combinations, spurious drugs act amendment bill, DPCO/NPPA issues etc., with the concerned departments of Govt. of India....
Since its formation, FOPE has been in forefront of Pharma associations/federations to take up various issues affecting the units in the tax free zones in particular and other government policies affecting the Pharma industries in general.
FOPE has been pro-active for last many years and had regular interactions with its respective members in both the states i.e. HP and UK and conducted many seminars, conferences, workshops, interactive meetings at different locations in the country.
FOPE office bearers have attended many meetings with DCGI, Department of Pharmaceuticals, NPPA etc. and today, FOPE is recognized by all the concerned Government Departments.
FOPE office bearers have been instrumental to create a joint forum of various associations representing Indian Pharma Industry (specifically MSME) like IDMA, CIPI, Pharmexcil and various state associations to create force in the voice and talk to the Government bodies, in a coordinated manner.
FOPE has been operating in close co-ordination with local associations of HP, Solan, Kalamb, Paonta Sahib, Roorkee, Haridwar and Devbhoomi Manufacturers Dehradun. All the issues of national importance and those to be dealt at New Delhi with Govt. of India on behalf of all these associations have been effectively taken up by FOPE and many of them have been resolved successfully.
Looking at the current needs in the county to effectively represent the issues of Indian Pharma industry specifically SMEs vis-a-vis MNCs it was felt that there is no effective platform in the capital of India at New Delhi to represent the SME sector. During last 10 years there have been many policy changes in the country which is a threat to the existence of the small scale pharma industries. The general body of FOPE felt it appropriate to make FOPE a national body to help connect the Pharma entrepreneurs of the country
FOPE welcomes the pharmaceutical industry of the country to become its member and let their problems be addressed through this dynamic forum.
